Early History Continued

At the May 8, 1947 Board of Directors meeting, held at the Park Hotel, director McRoberts was instructed to contact to contact someone relative to building of a golf course and figures.

At the meeting held August 28, 1947, the directors decided to employ Francis I. James to give preliminary survey of proposed golf course.

At the November 6, 1947 membership meeting with President Peavey presiding, it was noted that membership numbers were at 185. Directors for new three-year terms were Bert Sweet, Duffy Reed and James Winterholer. R.S. Tofflemire discussed construction of golf course and clubhouse with preliminary plans and costs. Claude Detweiler described method of financing by giving pledges by members, which would be credited on future dues.

All road construction was financed by sale of four percent debentures to various members of the club.

At a special membership meeting on August 5, 1948, presided by R.S. Tofflemire, Vice President Jim Winterholer reported development of golf course and stated it would be ready for play in the spring of 1949.

Cecil Jones, architect, and Fred Reed, contractor, showed modified plans on the clubhouse. Estimated cost to be about $10.00 per square foot and the building would be approximately 3,800 square feet. Detweiler Brothers had agreed to furnish all plumbing and wiring services at cost. Bert Sweet and Son had agreed to furnish all furniture, furnishings and fixtures at cost. Duffy Reed was now hauling from McCall dimension lumber for use in the construction of the clubhouse without charge for hauling. E.W. McRoberts, Treasurer, made a complete financial report: cash on hand and accounts receivable totaled $35,566.68. Mr. Tofflemire the stated another $10,000.00 more that present funds available would be necessary to construct the clubhouse.

It was reported at the December 6 meeting that 100 had advanced amounts of future dues in order to make available the additional funds for completion of the clubhouse. Also Duffy Reed and Detweilers, Inc. among others had supplied service and equipment at absolutely no cost with a savings to the club of approximately $7,500.00.

The first Annual Meeting of the membership was held September 11, 1949 in the new clubhouse with President Tofflemire presiding. Thirty-six new members were reported and nine new associate members. Total membership was now 306. Ralph Pink and Virginia Westergren reported on house committee activities. Newly elected directors for three year terms were Harold Hove, Art Cedarquist and Glenn E. Jenkins.

At the September 10, 1950 annual membership meeting, President Miles Browning presided. Reports showed a total of 334 resident members plus sixteen non-residents. Highlights of the club improvements were the road, the clubhouse addition, and sewage disposal. Art Cedarquist reported on boating activities, mentioning that private funds had been used for construction of the boathouse. Ralph Bacon told of new skeet and trap shoot grounds without use of club funds. Newly elected three-year term directors were Voy Hudson, Ralph Bacon and Harry Elcock.
