Club Symbol

The Club symbol or emblem or coat of arms was designed and carved by R.J. Schwendiam. The original was carved on a wood block approximately 18 inches square by 3 inches thick. An insignia is made to represent the club, first the golf club and ball represents the game of golf. The fish and duck represent fishing and hunting. The BLCC, of course, represents Blue Lakes Country Club. It was completed in 1946 and accepted by the Board of Directors. Schwendiman was a member of the Board at the time.
Early History of Blue Lakes Country Club
Prologue:
A Blue Lakes Country Club, to be established at what was known as the Blue Lakes Ranch, was in the minds of Twin Falls citizens dating back to 1922. Such prominent citizens as A.L. Swim, L.L. Breckenridge, E.J. Ostrander and L.A. Chapin organized and filed articles of incorporation on or about April 26, 1922. It is believed that failure to persuade I.B. Perrine Sr. to sell this property led to the failure of this venture.
Blue Lakes Ranch
In the fall of 1944 Walton G. Swim (son of A.L. Swim) started organizing a Blue Lakes Country Club Association. At the time it was rumored that an outside interest (possibly Bing Crosby) was planning to purchase the Blue Lakes Ranch.
On December 27, 1944 four members of the Blue Lakes Country Club Association (W.G. Swim, Claude Detweiler, Bert Sweet and C.R. Nelson) met and procured from Burton Perrine Jr. and wife, Emerald Perrine, an option to lease the property know as the Blue Lakes Ranch in the Snake River Canyon in Jerome County for a term of fifty years, with renewal privilege of forty-nine years, beginning with January 1, 1945 for a sum of $3600.00 per year.
At the meeting of the Blue Lakes Country Club Association, held January 22, 1945 at the city hall and presided over by W.G. Swim, the membership was informed in detail concerning the acquired option and lease and the plans for development of said property as a country club. R.S. Tofflemire moved the association proceed to incorporate. The temporary secretary J.H. Blanford was instructed to draw articles of incorporation and give notice of incorporation as per Idaho law. This notice was published in the Times News issues of January 14th and 21st, 1945.
At the January 30th meeting, presided by W.G. Swim, nomination and election of the first Board of Directors took place. The following members were elected by unanimous ballot.
One year term:
- Frank Cook, Twin Falls
- W.A. VanEngelen, Twin Falls
- Clark Heiss, Jerome
Two year term:
- C. R. Nelson, Twin Falls
- Al Westergren, Twin Falls
- A.W. Tingwall, Jerome
Three year term:
- W.G. Swim, Twin Falls

Truman T. Greenhalgh moved the adoption of the resolution that the following directors, Frank Cook, Al Westergren, C.R. Nelson and W. G. Swim, take the necessary and proper steps to incorporate Blue Lakes Country Club Association as Blue Lakes Country Club Inc.
